Annual Mepham All-Class Reunion

First Saturday After Labor Day
Nassau County Park in Wantagh

In 2004 we had the first reunion for all Mepham Alumni (and their families and friends) at the Nassau County Park in Wantagh. It was deemed such a success, by the 150 who attended, that the Alumni Association Board decided to make it an annual event on the Saturday after Labor Day. The 2005 repeat reunion was just as successful.

We rented the large shelter, in case it would rain, and we brought water, ice, and charcoal. Then barbecues were set aglow for those who had brought their own burgers and franks. But mostly what we brought were many of our alumni who were excited to see their friends and spend the afternoon chatting about the years at Mepham and the years since.

In addition to the big picnic the gathering was an opportunity for other groups to get together in smaller parties. In all those occasions the activities were open to members of other classes since friendships have dispersed to widening classes over the years. The Class of 1940 met Friday for the time between lunch and dinner at the Old Country Buffet in Levittown. Also, in 2004 the Class of 1946 met Friday night for wine and cheese in Jerry and Clare Eastwood Worthing's home. The Class of 1941 had a Sunday reunion lunch at the West Wind in Freeport, and the Class of 1972 gathered Friday night at Hudson & McCoy in Freeport. In 2007 we had the September to Remember celebration. Other classes have coordinated their reunions on this weekend.

The great advantage of having an all-class reunion is that people can get together for other smaller activities, knowing that we will continue to have that first weekend after Labor Day set aside to gather ourselves with our friends. We will attempt to keep our alumni informed of activities that are planned through this web site.

Directions to the park: Take Wantagh Parkway south to exit W5W (Sunrise H’wy West); turn left at second light (Bellmore Ave); go to Merrick Rd, turn left; continue to just before entry to Wantagh Pkwy; and follow the Wantagh Park signs. Be careful or you will end up at Jones Beach.

If you have any questions contact: Doris Christmann at 516-781-1910 or Reunions@Mepham.Org. Please tell Doris of your planned get-togethers for that weekend so that we can announce them.
